Tom is an ordained United Methodist clergyman with 45 years of ministerial experience, including 22 years as an Active Duty Navy Chaplain. He has been the associate minister at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church for six years. He retired from the Navy in 2004 following a three-year assignment as the Director of Religious Ministries for the Navy’s Southeastern Region, which included Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the establishment of the Terrorist Detention Facility in 2002. He served as a Chaplain to Marines at both the First Marine Division in California and the Second Marine Division in North Carolina. Other tours of duty included Naval Support Activity, Naples, Italy and various assignments in Virginia, Florida, and on the Island of Guam. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Armstrong State University, and both the Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Tom and his wife, JoAnn, have been married 46 years. They have three children and fourteen grandchildren. Tom and JoAnn both grew up in the Savannah area and are enjoying getting re-acquainted with their native city.
